About the workshop:

In a time when Alaska faces difficult decisions that will shape our future for decades to come, participatory leadership and community engagement is critical. This workshop is an opportunity for people who care deeply about Alaska’s future - particularly in the areas of education, climate change, and mental health - to come together and imagine and practice what is possible when we harness our collective knowledge and wisdom to shape the future of our community.

This workshop is led by experienced facilitators from Alaska and Canada: AKHF President & CEO Kameron Perez-Verdia, Chris Corrigan, Jennifer Williams, and Caitlin Frost.

Participants will learn about and experience:

  • Participatory dialogue methods such as World Café, Pro Action Café, Open Space Technology and Circle; all processes that help tap the collective intelligence of groups

  • Tools for working with equity, difference and diversity while holding a participatory lens on leadership and collaboration

  • Personal leadership practice for stepping into challenging leadership situations where you are uncertain, limited or stuck

  • Theory and practice of working with complexity and getting a handle on “impossible” situations

  • Tools for designing strategic innovation that is inclusive and sustainable over time and that work with the complexity of our time instead of against it

  • Participatory approaches to decision making that are core to effective participatory leadership and shared ownership of decisions and outcomes

Participants will also:

  • Connect with a network of participants invested in Anchorage’s future

  • Receive an Art of Hosting reference book tailored to this workshop

  • Receive a digital certificate of completion that can be shared on LinkedIn

  • Receive an invitation to a follow-up gathering of practicing facilitators

This workshop will anchor a year of facilitation workshops, trainings and practice spaces offered by the Forum, all driven by our mission to connect Alaskans through experiences that inspire understanding and strengthen communities.
