2008 Governor's Awards for the Arts & Humanities

The Governor’s Awards for the Arts & Humanities is an annual series of awards honoring the contribution of individuals and groups that ‘enrich the civic, intellectual, and cultural life of all Alaskans through the wisdom and techniques of the humanities.’ Previous award winners may be found at www.akhf.org.

Eligibility

Any Alaskan individual, organization, or institution that has advanced the humanities in Alaska and the world. Current Board of Directors and staff of the Alaska Humanities Forum are not eligible for consideration.

Procedure

Nominations must follow the format below and may be submitted by mail, fax, or electronically, by August 29, 2008. Self-nominations are not allowed. Governor’s Awards will be announced in late September 2008.

The banquet honoring Arts & Humanities awards will be at the Downtown Marriott in Anchorage, Alaska on Thursday October 23, 2008 in conjunction with the Alaska Federation of Natives conference.

All nominations must be received online or postmarked by August 29, 2008. A panel will be convened in late August/early September to review nominations and pass along a list of proposed awardees for final approval to the Governor of Alaska. Final awardees will be contacted by the Alaska Humanities Forum, in conjunction with the Office of the Governor of Alaska.
